Free energy fridge of the future
Electrolux design Lab Design competition
Global Finalist
The brief was to design a home appliance for 2050. This involved research on consumer trends, technology predictions, futurism; and the absence of any feasibility considerations.
The result was the creation of the ‘Freedge’ - an appliance that cools the planet while cooling your food. The Freedge brings innovation to an appliance that has seen little modification since its first inception. My concept maximises the spatial capacity of a home by placing the bulky storage compartment of the fridge beyond an exterior wall, until it is actually needed, at which point a draw in the wall is utilised to bring the fridge and its contents to the user. This solution also requires less energy – Utilising magnetic cooling technology and insulating with a green wall, the fridge needs very little energy to keep food cold.
